An EU-wide ban on cat and dog fur imports will be enforced by the end of next year after a European Parliament vote.

Overwhelming backing for the move comes after eight years of campaigning by celebrity supporters including Heather Mills and the rock star Rick Wakeman.

In other news, the European Union actually ALLOWED the sale of dog and cat furs before rock stars and Heather Mills got involved, it’s still a free-for-all for another year and a half, and it took 8 years to get European lawmakers to decide that was a bad idea? What are they smoking over there?

Oh yeah, I remember. I’ve been there before.

According to today’s Boston Globe, a Massachusetts woman says her prized pooch Ducky has been officially named by Guinness World Records as the world’s smallest living dog, by height, at 4.9 inches.

That would beat the celebrated Lake County dog named Dancer by a whisker. Dancer measured 5 inches on his first birthday June 8. Dogs aren’t eligible for such records until they reach a year old. The height is measured in inches from the dogs’ paws through shoulders.

Despite Dancer’s apparent, uh, shortcoming, his owner, Jenny Gomes of Okahumpka, is not ready to concede.

A three-legged dog has saved a family on Queensland’s Darling Downs from a house fire overnight.

Fire had taken hold of the 100-year-old timber house in Dalby before the family was alerted.

Acting police Sergeant Brett Stevenson says it was the persistent barking of a three-legged dog which enabled the couple to escape with their children aged four and two.

“They managed to get out fairly quickly before they were overtaken by any smoke or flames,” he said.

Way to go, Fido! Three woofs.

Golfer Jean Kautzman rescued a drowning dog at a suburban St. Louis golf course Tuesday before her first round even began

Aw jeez! The poor old lady didn’t even get one hole in! Then what happened?

After the rescue, Kautzman kept the same clothes on, dried off, and resumed playing her 18 holes
